The landlady, conveniently, was engaged in the rear...

Well, I've just got a couple random things today...

-First of all, the title of this post is a line of narration that appears on page 209 of Madison Smartt Bell's Straight Cut, the most recent publication from the magnificent Hard Case Crime imprint. This is a rather dour, slow paced, and very serious piece of crime literature. But that line pretty much broke my immersion in the story. I had to take a moment.

-Last night, I watched to film adaption of John Godey's novel The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. The novel was quite good, and the movie was an almost impeccable adaptation. There was one glaring change, though. The Transit Cop played by Walter Mathau in the movie was black in the book. I can't help but wonder if the film-makers sat down at some point in pre-production and said something like 'hmm...unfortunately, Sidney Poitier, James Earl Jones and Yaphet Koto are all busy...hey, how about Walter Mathau?' I mean, WTF?

I was going to write about something else, too, but a minor crisis with Zombie's children has caused me to completely forget what.
